Tomás is proud to present the pottery of Mata Ortiz, Mexico
for your pleasure. We have journeyed to Mata Ortiz to purchase these
works of art and personally selected them for the gallery.
These pots, or as we say in Spanish "ollas" are all made
with native clays and paints by the techniques perfected by Juan
Quezada. They are shaped by hand without a potter's wheel.
Pots
are incised and painted by the artists without patterns, allowing
the artist to exercise the full range of his or her skills. The
paint brushes are very fine, mostly made from a few hairs of the
artist's child. Human hairs offer fine control and great durability
of the brush. As available, we have provided detailed
artist information.
